After years of struggling with problematic skin, a serious health scare led our founder, Kate to Tibet in search of a reset. It was there that she reconnected with nature and discovered the transformative, restorative power of plants.

The Roots

In Tibet, Kate was introduced to the wild-crafted, high altitude Seaberry, a golden fruit cold-pressed for its rich amber oil and used for generations by the local women for numerous skin conditions. After seeing her own problematic skin visibly transform, she began traveling the world in search of other nutrient dense plant actives—laying the foundation for AKAR.

At the PlantHouse, our state-of-the-art laboratory and innovation center in Taiwan, we carefully combine over 100 SuperFlowers+, SuperPlants+, and SuperFoods+, preserving the active compounds through CO2 and cold-pressed extraction. Meet Kate

Taiwanese Founder Kate Chen, a graduate of the University of Michigan, began her career in the fast-paced world of finance, where years of long hours and constant travel took a toll on both her skin and her health. Searching for a reset, she traveled to Tibet, where she discovered Seaberry, a remarkable plant that restored her problematic skin. Just as meaningful was the quite contentment of the people and their simple way of life. That experience inspired AKAR, a skincare brand rooted in the belief healthy skin, like life itself, thrives with less noise and more intention.
