The Seeds
AKAR was born after years of long hours and constant travel in finance took a toll on both Kate's skin and health. Following a serious health incident, she traveled to the Tibetan Plateau in search of a reset. It was there that she reconnected with nature and discovered the transformative power of plants.
The Roots
In Tibet, Kate was introduced to the wild-crafted Seaberry, a golden fruit cold-pressed for its rich amber oil and treasured for generations. After seeing her own dry, sensitized skin visibly transform, she began traveling the world in search of other remarkable plant actives—laying the foundation for AKAR.
The Plants
Today, every AKAR formula is built around the belief that healthy skin begins with proper nourishment. We thoughtfully combine over 100 SuperFlowers+, SuperPlants+, and SuperFoods+, preserving their active compounds through CO2 and cold-pressed extraction. Every formula is developed and producted at The PlantHouse, our state-of-the-art laboratory and innovation center in Taiwan, where we oversee every step from concept to creation.
Meet Kate
Taiwanese Founder Kate Chen, a graduate of the University of Michigan, began her career in the fast-paced world of finance, where years of long hours and constant travel took a toll on both her skin and her health. Searching for a reset, she traveled to Tibet, where she discovered Seaberry, a remarkable plant that restored her skin. But what stayed with her most was the quite contentment of the people and their simple way of life. That experience inspired AKAR, a skincare brand rooted in the belief that less noise and more intention can help skin and life thrive.
"After struggling to find a lab that shared our standards for sustainability, craftmanship, and the ability to work with an extensive plant library, I decided to build The PlantHouse in Taiwan, my home. It allows us to develop every formula ourselves and maintain complete control over the quality of the products we make."
